    I make work in response to natural and material culture, drawing out narratives of people and place to create work in video, text, sound, photography, digital-media and context-based public art.     As a former Maths teacher and with little in the way of formal education in ceramics, in essence, my creative practice is a continuous exploration of the unknown, with each outcome becoming a stepping stone towards a more profound understanding of the medium. I enjoy the flexibility afforded by working intuitively with clay, as this allows me the freedom to try anything that comes to mind.

    Aly Smith is a working class artist with bi-polar and a few other mental health diagnosis thrown in depending which health care provider she sees. Her work often looks at the comedic side of her bi-polar whilst wanting to raise awareness of mental health and the struggles that herself and people have.
