    I am a glass and mixed media artist based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. My work draws inspiration from individual and collective stories and memories.     I am a photographer and a qualified teacher. I tutor workshops in basic digital photography and cyanotype printing. My main practice is in documentary photography. I also have a passion for Camera Obscura and have designed and built my own portable CO. Inspired by largescale artworks I also have a passion for light paintings and abstractions made at night.

    Currently, I am primarily interested in exploring human/nature discourses through a narrative practice that engages with objects (natural and human-made), representation, and employing a range of processes and means of making.     I've been on a creative journey for over 20 years, earning a Bachelor's and Master's in Fine Art. My work featured in exhibitions like "Come As You Art" and "Mirror Mirror on the Wall" in 2021, even amidst COVID-19 challenges. I also designed a poster for "The Shadow Pandemic" in Brighton, raising awareness about domestic abuse during the pandemic.

    Living in the north west of Cumbria, England, I am constantly inspired by the ever-changing landscape. Having moved to the region in 2018, I have continued to develop my creative practice over the past few years. My work reflects the beauty and sometimes ethereal qualities of the landscape I encounter every day and I aim to paint in a way that adds a feeling of nostalgia in the viewer.

    I have been painting and exhibiting since 1998 and spent 12 years in Vietnam where I owned a gallery. I am so happy to be back in my native Yorkshire. My recent watercolour and acrylic works concern themes such as Origins, Belonging and the Joy of Life. I believe in the honesty of art and follow where my inspirations lead me.     Alison Lam identifies as a neurodivergent, interdisciplinary socially arts practitioner using differing materials such as porcelain, metals, glass and paper. Alison explores the idea of grief, discardment and ostracisation, through exploring and invsestigating process led investigations. She often refers to this process as ‘drawing with her hands’.
