    I am a graduate professional artist with BA Fine Art First Class Honours 2006. I'm inspired by the landscape and create work that abstracts what I see and experience. Often working en plein air I create dynamic & colourful compositions. I'm inspired by abstract expressionism with rapid expressive mark making & striking colours of Fauvism. I have a strong exhibition catalogue over 20 shows in 2025.

    I studied fine art (Painting) at Wimbledon School of Art 1970-73 and have continued to make and exhibit work since then. I also worked continuously in art organisations as a curator, and Director till my retirement.

    I am currently producing work that is a a combination of paintings and mixed media relief pieces that combine embroidery, paper clay, precious metal clay, paper, watercolour, ink and found objects. Each piece is accompanied with a poem about and as a response to the physical work. I also work as a development librarian.

    My work is an emotional response to the coastal landscape and not a literal interpretation of what I see. The compositions that I develop are not particularly concerned with the specifics of place, but more the elemental relationship between land, sky and sea. The freedom and spontaneity of mark making and gestural paint application allow me to express a more personal image of the environment.

    Joanne is a visual artist whose creative journey began in photography but flourished into painting.     Laura James (b.1994) is a British painter based in London. Her practice explores the unconscious crossover between our internal and external worlds, seeking to unearth a primal place where the mind meets the land. Using predominantly water-based mediums, coloured pencil and monoprint, she weaves dreamlike terrains that emerge through a multi-layered and intuitive process.
