Artist Jane Elizabeth Bennett’s practice is an examination of the world in which she finds her self. To her, existence is filled with systems of discontinuity. Memories that fade, language that is inadequate and places that continually fracture and reform.

My practice is varied and inspiration comes from a multitude of sources; however the core theme of all my work is to dispel social norms and question our default attitudes and paradigms. Currently my work is predominantly a social commentary; I am interested in the writings of Boudrillard and Eco on 'hyperreality', The Situationist International and, most recently, existentialism.

I'm a painter living & working in County Kildare, Ireland. I feature native Irish plants in my work. I'm not that kind of a botanical artist that works to a strict scientific discipline. Rather I describe the beautiful forms and colours of these plants to convey an emotion or a message. My aim is to capture the essence of these plants within their natural environment.

I make things using antler, combining it with wood, silver, and gold leaf to create sculptural forms, containers and jewellery. Mainly I use red deer antler from Scotland, but I also use reindeer antler from Lapland and other types of antler and bone. I look at the carving traditions of other cultures, but try and find my own style of expression to make something unique and beautiful.
