    My pieces are born out of the necessity to understand the inner self and to express emotions beyond words. Each work delves into the macabre and the sinister, juxtaposed against the beauty of nature.     I am a graduate professional artist with BA Fine Art First Class Honours 2006. I'm inspired by the landscape and create work that abstracts what I see and experience. Often working en plein air I create dynamic & colourful compositions. I'm inspired by abstract expressionism with rapid expressive mark making & striking colours of Fauvism.     I am by definition an abstract artist who mainly specialises in painting. I use acrylic paint and mixed media to create my artworks, typically on large abandoned photographs, paper or canvas. The general theme behind my work is rooted in environmental issues and explores the contrasts between a natural existence and a synthetic environment that many of us find ourselves living in.

    Claire Mc Dermott is a working-class artist whose research combines art, biophysics and the humanities through social and environmental issues, while her multidisciplinary skills created sculpture, photography, drawing, print and poems by making connections between plants, glass and air. As an environmentalist, she envisions a planet that shares and represents all cultures.
