    I am a teacher of Geography and until a few years ago I never thought I had a creative bone in my body. I then discovered wood turning and the joy of shaping wood as if it was clay. I have rapidly moved away from traditional wood turning and like to use a variety of non-traditional wood and different materials that enhance the wood. I like form and shape inspired by nature.

    My name is Gemma Yates and I'm a painter from the UK. I love to paint natural forms such as flowers, trees, figures and thriving landscapes.     I grew up in the ancient port of Whitby, in northern England which sits between the North Yorkshire Moors and the North Sea. This dramatic environment has influenced my art as much as my multi-ethnic ancestry and popular culture. As do the conflicts within our existence: light and dark; life and death; imprisonment and freedom; censorship and expression.
