    I am currently producing work that is a a combination of paintings and mixed media relief pieces that combine embroidery, paper clay, precious metal clay, paper, watercolour, ink and found objects. Each piece is accompanied with a poem about and as a response to the physical work. I also work as a development librarian.

    As a child I loved to draw and paint, and as an adult would loved to have had the time to follow it up. However, work and family kept me busy. When I retired I promised myself I would join an art class and take it seriously. Though I don't hold a degree, I am still being very well taught, by excellent professional teachers .,so you are never too old to learn about something you love doing.

    I am a Brighton-based artist with an interest in semiotics, producing concept-driven work with a specialism in slip-cast ceramics.     I am a graduate professional artist with BA Fine Art First Class Honours 2006. I'm inspired by the landscape and create work that abstracts what I see and experience. Often working en plein air I create dynamic & colourful compositions. I'm inspired by abstract expressionism with rapid expressive mark making & striking colours of Fauvism.     Sarah McAlister graduated with MA Textiles from The University for the Creative Arts in 2024 and focuses her practice on re-using found materials. Her work is made in response to places and events she has experienced. Her ethos as a textile artist is to recycle, re-use and re-purpose existing resources meaning that her pieces are made entirely from found objects and fabrics.
