    My art explores mental health, struggle, healing, and growth, shaped by my psychology background, including a Master’s in Psychology Research and years supporting young people with mental health challenges and special needs. I'm inspired by the intersection of humanity and nature, and transform inner emotions into expressive portraits, vivid abstractions, and unique, deeply human characters.

    Sal is known for her expressive portraits that capture fleeting emotions rather than fixed likenesses. Working in rich layers of oil paint, she draws on film, media, and her own imagery to create characters who feel both familiar and mysterious. With titles often borrowed from dialogue, her paintings hint at stories without telling them outright, leaving space for the viewer to step in.

    I am a graduate professional artist with BA Fine Art First Class Honours 2006. I'm inspired by the landscape and create work that abstracts what I see and experience. Often working en plein air I create dynamic & colourful compositions. I'm inspired by abstract expressionism with rapid expressive mark making & striking colours of Fauvism. I have a strong exhibition catalogue over 20 shows in 2025.

    Graduating in 1987 from Maidstone College of Art, with a Fine Arts BA (hons) degree I entered the world of teaching after gaining a PGCE at Bretton hall.     Ross’ practice is centred around nature in an urban environment, a sense of place, utilising and repurposing found and recycled materials are key to both sustainability & minimising my artistic footprint.
