I am an artist who’s work only exists through acts of collaboration with the public. I am currently struggling to maintain a sense of coherence between being a gay man who loves men and masculinity, but who wants to challenge the ‘toxic’ masculinity that is so damaging to women and men.

I am a multi-media artist, illustrator and writer. My work is often populated with a host of creatures, visions, beings and protectors that enter this world through my hands. I am influenced by connection the natural, the imaginal, the spiritual and the supernatural worlds. I call myself an 'environmental surrealist.' I studied ceramics, with life drawing, at Southampton College of Art, (1971-1974. I was a professional potter for 20 years, firstly in Tisbury, Wiltshire, and subsequently at Bull Mill, Crockerton, an artists’ commune, where I used dancers as decorative motifs. My subject matter is dancers and figures, often using images of my partner who founded Phoenix Dance Company.

I work with different media - mainly sculpture, drawing and video. I am intrigued by the idea that survival and societal progression are similar things, each helping to bring about a continual cycle of renewal and obsolescence. Whilst decay, deterioration and neglect are central themes of my practice, I am also interested in the quest to transcend that which is deemed ordinary.
