    I grew up in the ancient port of Whitby, in northern England which sits between the North Yorkshire Moors and the North Sea. This dramatic environment has influenced my art as much as my multi-ethnic ancestry and popular culture.     Milena Makani is a German abstract painter based in London, living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Utilizing acrylics, watercolors and inks on mineral stone sheets, Makani created anatomic and deeply psychological abstractions that lend a visual language to her lived experience with disabilities and permanent pain as she explores themes of resilience, energy, serenity, fragility, stoicism and joy.

    I am a sculptor whose work investigates identity and the way we portray this in the world through the forms of our clothing and our architecture.
