    Embroiderer and wordsmith, Catherine Hill is a multi-award-winning contemporary textile artist based in the UK. Her artistic vision is drawn from her childhood memories growing up in the English county of Lancashire in the 1970’s. Easily recognised for her creative use of hand embroidered text, she has been exhibited in the UK, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Ukraine & Australia.

    Born in Lancashire, painting and drawing since a young child, I gained a degree in graphic design and pursued a career in design for over 25 years, whilst continuing to paint. Painting is my passion and my purpose. Now concentrating fully on painting professionally.     I am a graphic designer and a visual artist. I work mostly in oil on canvas but work sometimes with acrylic and water colour. Most of my recent paintings were influenced political and social upheaval of our world today and the works of the Renaissance artists. I do not like artworks to be just for decoration but to evoke feelings.

    The first time I touched clay, it was a peaceful and comforting experience. There is nothing more grounding than working by hand with raw materials and watching as it slowly transforms into a piece of work. This started by accident. As someone who has ADHD, it’s incredibly difficult to be still, and I feel the need to constantly be doing something with my hands.

    In 2024 I became aware of the huge potential of acrylics so have switched across from watercolours that I have done for 10 years or so. Loving the fact that you can use almost anything to create a picture and it is a far more creative media. I use the brand name 'Random Acrylics' because they will be exactly that as you will see what you want to see.

    I'm a stained glass designer and maker based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. My style has a contemporary/medieval/retro feel and is inspired by the natural environment, and flora and fauna. Celestial bodies are a big theme as well as green men. My iconic fish are made for the scrap glass left over from larger projects. I also repair stained glass windows.
