    For over twenty years, my practice as a community artist has centred on participation, storytelling, and collective making.     Jenny Baines is an artist whose practice explores the relationship between the body, screen and space. Working predominantly with 16mm film, she performs repeated often absurd actions for the camera, pushing the limitations of her own physical endurance.

    I am a self taught illustrator and printmaker, focusing primarily on relief printing using the reduction linocut technique. I am self taught and launched my practice, The Black Gold Press, in 2013.

    Janes practice combines drawing, printmaking and embroidery. She works from her studio in Stockport, and exhibits regularly both nationally and internationally. Jane studied embroidered textiles at Goldsmiths college followed by postgraduate study at Manchester Polytechnic. Having lectured for 30 years at Manchester School of Art , Jane changed career in 2020 to become a full time artist.

    I am a London-based artist working across analogue and digital processes to explore connections between labour, race and technology. My interest in animation techniques, theory and practice has influenced a current body of work that uses computer generated images (CGI) and film. I incorporate craft, gardening and walking as entanglements of history, place and identity.

    I grew up in Zambia, studied Classics and Education at St. Mary’s University in London, and later graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a B.A. Honours in Fine Art. As teacher and artist, my interests have often overlapped. I have exhibited in many English and European cities, as can be seen in my CV on this website. My Sheffield studio is at Exchange Place, which is part of Yorkshire Art
