    I am an artist currently exploring print making, mainly relief printing with linoleum. The dining room in my little Lincolnshire cottage doubles as my studio. I have always been interested in the medium but had only dabbled in it in the past. However with the time and solace of lockdowns in 2020 I found I could explore and experiment uninterrupted. I am now hooked!

    A recent MA Glass graduate from UCA Farnham I am just setting up my practice in a shared studio in Hampshire. I specialize in casting waste glass. I have spent my time at university extensively testing and experimenting with the unpredictable medium of bottle glass.

    At 35 I have experienced the world as a medical doctor, a woman with fertility issues, a mother and a human with an emotional response to the realities of life. I am now in a place where I want to use my experiences as a doctor to influence my art; invoking thought to instigate change.     My work explores, identity, space and belonging through memory and migration. I specialise with analogue film and photography, combining this with digital mediums to create layered pieces of artwork. I have a special interest in exploring stories from the past, stories of migration and transition of cultures in today's society.     I am an interdisciplinary artist working across a range of media . My work explores feelings of grief and loss through the context of “what remains”. How we connect to and remember the dead through the material "stuff" which is left behind is central to my work. I use a visual language of dereliction , fragility and decay in my artmaking in order to mirror the emotional state of grief.

    Helena Russell is a self-employed silversmith based in Sheffield. After graduating from BA in Jewellery and Metalwork 2016 and MA in Design at Sheffield Hallam 2018, Helena continued her passion of working in metal and took part in the Starter Studio program for early career silversmiths and jewellers at Yorkshire Artspace. She now has a shared studio space in Yorkshire Artspace.
