    I am a Brighton-based artist with an interest in semiotics, producing concept-driven work with a specialism in slip-cast ceramics.     Graduating in 1987 from Maidstone College of Art, with a Fine Arts BA (hons) degree I entered the world of teaching after gaining a PGCE at Bretton hall.     Jo creates abstract sea/colour-scapes focusing on horizons, using gold, silver, copper metal-leaf, oil-paint, playing with rust and verdigris on plaster and wooden panels.     I resumed making sculpture in 2014 and have since shown sculpture, audio visual pieces and drawing. I am interested in the experiences of new, older artists returning or starting to make art that takes into account contemporary practices. I make constructions that are material and tangible and whose component forms often have a direct relation to the features of the gallery or site.
