    I am a visual artist working in sculpture installation and print. With a BA in 3D Design in Glass from UCA Farnham, I graduated with an MA in Art and Science from Central Saint Martins London 2018. Investigating themes related to natural forces and perception, I won the National Open Art Prize Installation Category in 2017 and was selected for the British Glass Biennale 2022.

    I am a UK based, mixed media artist working primarily in encaustic. Alongside my art practice, I promote and educate about this 2500 year old technique, determined that this ancient medium experience a resurgence in the UK as it has in the USA. My process involves building up layers of encaustic paint (molten beeswax, tree sap and pigment) on wood, adding fire to fuse (bond) the layers together.

    I'm Ella Johnston, my practice is an ongoing investigation into mark-making, gesture, and the calligraphic line. I (mainly) draw, paint and create sculptural pieces.     Following my graduation from a Fine Art Degree in 1993, I qualified as an art teacher, teaching art for over twenty-five years in various settings, including mainstream schools and referral units for children excluded from school. My understanding of art and how students can be encouraged to create has enlightened, inspired and enriched my understanding of the practice and process of making art.

    Lo graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2009 with a Ba(Hons) in Fine Art. She has since been writing, drawing and working in Leeds with her cat and number one fan, Moo. She works as an independent Illustrator and is one half of the creative duo, Lo & Vee. Together they run a regular art class and have had success with their large, detailed, painted murals.
